Quality Assurance

1. Directorate General of Quality Assurance (DGQA)and Directorate General of Aeronautical Quality Assurance (DGAQA) are the primary agencies under Department of Defence Production (DDP), which are entrusted to ensure Quality Assurance of the Defence items.
2. DGQA provides Quality Assurance (QA) cover for the entire range of Arms, Ammunitions, Equipments and Stores supplied to Armed Forces. Apart from QA activities, the organisation is responsible for import substitution and associates with Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in the development projects.
3. DGAQA is the regulatory authority for Quality Assurance and final acceptance of Military Aircraft, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), Aero Engines, Airborne Systems, Avionics, Armaments, Consumables (FOL Stores), Allied Ground Systems and Missiles during Design & Development, Production, Repair, Modification and Overhaul/ Repair at various Defence PSUs, Ordnance Factories and Private Firms.
4. Under the ‘Make in India’ initiative of Government of India, OFB& DPSUs aim to act as an integrator, remain focused on core competency and enhance outsourcing. In order to bring in the best global practices in the field of Quality Assurance for effectively managing the Quality Control function with optimum resources and without any dilution of stringent Quality requirements forproducts, the concept of self-certification and utilization of third party inspection services are being introduced in DPSUs.
5. Implementation of Third Party Inspection model in military aviation would create an eco-system that supports effective management of large extent of out-sourced work to MSMEs and private organisations with optimum involvement of main contractors such as HAL. The system will bring in higher degree of participation and responsibility on part of supply chain to execute orders in an effective and transparent manner. This would ultimately result in developing high quality, cost effective and reliable world class supply chain for aerospace products for Indian and global customers.
